How to write your own book – A Manual for writers

Did you also always wanted to write a book? I myself did write two, one about Social Media Marketing (you don’t need to research it, it’s from 2015 and nothing is the same in the social networks…) and one about Matomo Analytics, published 2022, which is still great if you use the tool, but it’s in German 😉

It did take quite some time writing those books, editing and formatting them and because of that, I did never start a third book – although I have a lot of ideas for fiction and non-fiction books.

With “The Author’s AI Toolkit”, Hank Quense tries to tackle that problem and make it easier for wannabe authors like me to really publish their books, helping us in all steps of the journey and guiding us through his framework:

  1. Planning
  2. Writing
  3. Publishing
  4. Marketing
  5. Author business

Show-Don’t-Tell: a great example of how the book works

One example that really stood out for me – if you are a seasoned writer, this wouldn’t be new for you, but it was for me: Show-Don’t-Tell Improvements.

If you are not familiar with the concept, here a quick quote from the book, in a Hamlet-ish setting:

Helene’s financial frustrations:

Rather than explicitly stating “Her monetary means showed otherwise,” you could show how tight finances affected their lives:

Example: The worn-out washing machine clanked noisily in protest as it spun the last load—a reminder that replacing it would have to wait until next year.”

This is, by the way, AI-written. But if you now say: why should AI write that, I can do that myself, maybe even better? And you are right. But that's not the point. AI helps you to get inspiration. And furthermore: it can not just invent great Show-Don’t-Tell examples, but also point out where you can improve your text with a Show-Don’t-Tell example you might have missed.

And yes, you still have to write yourself, that’s a strong believe of Hank: you are still on the steering wheel and AI just helps you make things better or faster or stronger 😉

I don’t know if I am going to start my next book soon, but Hank Quense definitely put my "upcoming" book higher on my ToDo-List. Why? Books are, in the theory of the Content Entrepreneur from Joe Pulizzi, the basis of your work, the manifesto that makes you unique. And Hank got me to think about my USP and which book I should write.

Who should buy it?

Everybody that thinks about putting their thoughts on “paper”, if fictional or non-fictional: this book is helping you. It’s not theoretical, it’s really a manual that helps you start. Although the start is – at least for me – not the problem, but what comes after your first idea: from concept to editing, there is a lot that can ruin your day while writing your book!

And for $6.99 on Amazon Kindle, it’s more than worth it.

And if you don't like Amazon, just google: "The Author's AI Toolkit: From Concept to Publication" by Hank Quense

Have fun writing your own book 🚀
Cheers
